St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church Yamaguchi
The Spanish missionary Francis Xavier came on a mission to Yamaguchi in 1551, after securing permission from Ouchi Yoshitaka. This church was built to mark the 400th anniversary of Xavier's arrival (and rebuilt in 1998). Each of the nine bells in the tower is inscribed with a message of peace or happiness.

Kozan Park, the five-storied pagoda of Rurikoji Temple (designated a national treasure)
Kozan Park, home to the five-storied pagoda of Rurikoji Temple (designated a national treasure), is dotted with the remains of a castle from the Muromachi period. The pagoda is one of the three most famous pagodas in Japan. Here you can enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding park, which changes with the seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, fall colors in autumn, and snow-covered sights in winter. Why not take a leisurely stroll around the area, where you can sense the colorful atmosphere of Ouchi culture.

Joeiji Temple Sesshu Garden
Ouchi Masahiro the 29th is said to have ordered that this garden be built during the Muromachi period. Surrounded by woods to the east, west, and north, this garden features a waterfall on the north side and a pond in the center with stone landscaping all around. Known as a garden that gave concrete form to the Sesshu landscape, it has been designated a national historic and scenic site.

Saikotei, Yamaguchi
Saikotei was a Japanese-style luxury restaurant that was frequented by politicians and literati, including Inoue Kaoru and Ito Hirobumi. This facility reproduces it in a new location as it was at its most flourishing in 1936. The large hall with 100 tatami mats is lined with framed portraits of Japan's prime ministers.
