Toshunji Temple
Located right next to the Rurikoji grounds is Toshunji Temple, the ancient family temple of Mori Motonari. If you stroll through the charming grounds and walk all the way to the end of the temple, you will find the Mizu-no-ue Kiln. If you’re lucky, you might be greeted by the resident dog priest Maru, or encounter the goats that roam gracefully around Toshunji.
Mizu-no-ue Kiln
Hidden at the end of Toshunji temple, the walls of Mizu-no-ue Kiln are lined up with ceramic plates and cups surrounded by a captivating natural environment. The workshop, once a temple barn, seamlessly combines modernity with a touch of nostalgic charm. Each piece crafted here embodies simplicity while prioritizing user-friendly design. Author Craig Mod described his encounter with potter Gakuji Masui as akin to chatting with a brother, highlighting the warm and inviting nature that drew him in.

Joeiji Temple
It is said that Ouchi Masahiro, the 29th lord of the Ouchi Clan, commissioned the renowned ink painter Sesshu to design this temple’s stunning garden. Surrounded by forests on the three sides, the garden boasts a waterfall on the north side, a central pond, and strategically placed garden stones throughout. Recognized for its aesthetic reminiscent of one of Sesshu’s ink paintings, this garden has been officially designated as a National Historic Site and a Place of Scenic Beauty.

Ryufukuji Temple
Founded in 1206 by the 18th lord of the Ouchi clan, Ouchi Mitsumori, this temple was later reconstructed at its current location in 1557. The main hall, representative of prominent temple architecture of the Muromachi period (1336-1573), has been designated as an Important Cultural Property. The on-site museum houses a collection of valuable materials. In mid to late November, the vibrant red maple-lined path attracts numerous visitors.

Yuda Onsen
Yuda Onsen dates back approximately 800 years, when legend says a white fox soaked its wound in the hot springs to heal. This mythical tale has endured through the centuries and continues to resonate along the streets of Yuda Onsen.
Known for its abundant water volume, the hot springs of Yuda Onsen are characterized by a soft, alkaline, simple composition that is gentle on the skin, earning it the nickname 'Bihada no Yu' or 'Skin-beautifying Hot Springs'.

Hagi Okan Trail
The Hagi Okan Trail was established as the official road for the Mori clan in 1604 under the Sankin Kotai policy, facilitating their travels to Edo after the construction of Hagi Castle. It connects the Sea of Japan in Hagi with the Seto Inland Sea at Mitajiri Port in Hofu in a nearly straight line, spanning approximately 53 km.
During the Edo period, it served as a vital thoroughfare connecting the San'in and San'yo regions for common people. In the final years of the Edo period, this path witnessed the comings and goings of many crucial figures of the Meiji Restoration, contributing significantly to Japanese history.
Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM)
The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, commonly referred to as 'YCAM,' is an art center located in Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Yamaguchi Gion Festival
This festival, with almost 600 years of history, is celebrated every year from the 20th to the 27th of July in Yamaguchi. During this celebration, you can witness mikoshi parades and a communal dance procession that gathers around 2,000 citizens in the city’s main shopping arcade. Food stalls line the streets, creating a week-long celebration where you can truly feel the essence of Japanese summer!
