RYUFUKUJI TEMPLE<Important Cultural Property of Japan>
Originally founded in 1206 as a temple of the Rinzai Buddhist school, it was re-established in 1454 as a Soto Buddhist temple but burnt down in 1551 during the war that devastated the city after the rebellion that led to the downfall of the Ouchi clan. Mori Takamoto had it once again rebuilt in its present location, adjacent to the ruins of the Ouchi residence, by order of emperor Go-Nara, with whom the late Yoshitaka kept a close friendship. Designated as Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1954.
