Yamaguchi-shi Saikotei

Yamaguchi-shi Saikotei is a restored Japanese restaurant which was loved by the great men of the Meiji Restoration and in the modern period.

Saito Kobei, who was assigned as a representative cook of the Mori Domain established the Japanese restaurant “Gion Saikotei” in 1877. The hall is the best part, with framed pictures or mottoes written by great men who loved Saikotei and went down in modern Japanese history. People can see the handwriting of central figures of the Meiji Restoration such as Tido Takayoshi, Inoue Kaoru, Ito Hirobumi, Yamagata Aritomo and other great men from Yamaguchi Prefecture such as Kishi Nobusuke and Sato Eisaku, brothers who were both Prime Minister and played an important role in the growth after World War II.
