Yudaonsen / Yuda Hot Spring
The legend tells that long ago the then head priest of Kumano Shrine observed that a white fox that was injured visited the shrine’s pond every day to put his paw in the water. Intrigued by this unusual scene, the priest examined the pond and noticed its waters were warm...
To remember this story, many of the streets of Yuda-onsen district are decorated with cute statues of foxes, welcoming visitors to town.
Yuda-onsen’s thermal source is very appreciated by hot spring lovers: its alkaline waters dissolve excess oil and old skin cells, so after a soak your skin will get velvety smooth and you’ll feel refreshed!
Apart from the baths at the various onsen establishments, ryokan and hotels, there are six “ashiyu” (footbaths) in the Yuda-onsen area that you can use for free.
