Kondo Hall (National Treasure), Fudoin Temple
Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture

Kondo Hall is the main hall of Fudoin Temple in Hiroshima City. Based on historical documents and writing found on its ceiling, it is thought that Kondo Hall was built originally in Yamaguchi in 1540 at the site of Koshakuji Temple, which is now the location of Rurikoji Temple. Kondo Hall was later relocated to Hiroshima, where it miraculously survived the atomic bomb dropped on that city in 1945. The only National Treasure in Hiroshima City, it is the largest extant example of a temple built in the Karayo style, a Chinese architectural style associated with Zen temples in Japan.
