Noda-jinjya Shinto Shrine

This shrine is dedicated chiefly to Mori Takachika (1819–1871), the 13th daimyo (feudal lord) of Choshu Domain. Takachika rendered distinguished service to the state during the Meiji Restoration, an event that restored imperial rule and kicked off Japan’s industrialization and modernization in the second half of the 19th century. The shrine is secondarily dedicated to Takachika’s son Mori Motonori. The shrine building was constructed in 1873 adjacent to Toyosaka-jinjya Shinto Shrine, which venerates the Mori family’s great ancestor, Mori Motonari, a powerful warlord during the 16th-century Warring States period.
