Burial Site of the Mori Family

This is a burial site for members of the Mori family, who ruled Choshu Domain (present-day Yamaguchi Prefecture) during the Edo Period (1603–1868). Entombed here are Mori Takachika, the 13th daimyo (feudal lord) of Choshu, and his wife Miyoshi, their son Motonori, the 14th and last daimyo of Choshu, and his wife Yasuko, and their son Motoakira and his wife Misako. At the bottom of the stairs leading to the graves is the Uguisubari Stone Pavement, where an echo resembling the sound of a Japanese bush warbler can be heard when you clap your hands or stomp your feet.
