Ryufukuji Temple

Ryufukuji is a temple established by Mori Takamoto (1523–1563) to pray for the repose of his lord, Ouchi Yoshitaka (1507–1551). After the old main hall burnt down in 1881, the Buddha Hall of Koryuji Temple (the family temple of the Ouchi clan that ruled Yamaguchi from the 14th to 16th century) was moved here in 1883 and made into the main hall of Ryufukuji. The main hall, which has a cypress bark roof beautifully restored in 2011, is a nationally designated important cultural property. The precincts of the temple and its surroundings were the site of the former residence of the Ouchi clan.
